In this assignment, we had to create our own classroom management plan. I had to create a statement of purpose that was direct, clear and understood that allows myself and my class to know what the classroom culture is going to be like. I also came up with many classroom procedures and the steps that students will follow. Then I went into positive and negative consequences that related directly to my procedures. Having procedures and consequences ready for my future relates to this standard as my actions as a teacher will affect how my students behave in my future classrooms. If I have clear procedures and expectations for my students to follow, and they don’t follow them the consequences that were related to those procedures need to also followed through. Being positive and negative with my students will help them know what behaviors are exactly expected and what behaviors are not appropriate. Also in this assignment, I created a crisis plan and an action plan. This is also very realistic since incidents happen all the time I will need to know how to evaluate the situation. Having these plans inaction will only make me a better teacher. A part of creating these plans was that I was going to share them with the families of my students to that they are aware of what we will do in case of a situation. This correlates to this standard as I will always be adapting as a teacher but as my families will need to as well. A crisis can happen at any time in my classroom and I will need to evaluate the situation, having this plan allows for me, my students, and the families to be ready. Another part of my classroom management plan was practicing the plan and procedures so my students know exactly what to do. This standard talks about being a reflective teacher, going through what should be done helps me and the students reflect on what should happen.
Classroom management is important because it helps set the guidelines for your students to follow. Without the classroom procedures, rules, and expectations students would not have a model of how they should be acting in school. If your classroom procedures are clear and direct, for your students to follow they have the expectation to follow them. it also helps to have the procedures visually up in the classroom so students can refer back to them at any point in time. Classroom management also helps your students become all-around students by becoming more prepared, organized, and respectful. Having a plan for how to talk to students and or the whole class is important to show the students that what they are doing is not appropriate. This assignment helped me with some very realistic situations I will need to do as a teacher. It has improved my thought processes for my future as a teacher by giving me the information I will need to implement in my own classroom. This assignment was completely something I will be using in the future and helped me reflect on ways I should and need to teach.
