Description:
This project was an inquiry question we thought about during this class this semester. We had to do research and interview someone that could help us understand more about the question, then present our findings to the class. After our class presentation, we then wrote a reflection on what we have learned, and how we found all our information.
I choose my inquiry project for this standard because with my question I was able to understand more about using creative thinking and learning to better understand a culture. My big question was ‘What makes it easier to learn a second language when you are older?’ and I interviewed my high school Spanish teacher and she told me all different teaching strategies that have been helpful and not helpful for students in high school to learn. Language barriers are one of the biggest global issues when traveling. In my future I was to be able to teach in international schools, so for me to learn what and how will be useful to teach English to students will be very beneficial. This project demonstrated this standard by learning how learning the culture and reading about the culture is one of the best ways to help older students learn a language, and not drive right into trying to speak the language. The inquiry project made me dive right into a different perspective to engage learners, because when teaching a different language you can’t teach it like English you need to take it slower and have a very comfortable environment for student.
