Final Reflection Peer Review #3

Outcome #4

For this outcome it talks about editing peers’ papers and how I made constructive suggestions to others for change. For this I will be talking about essay three. I edited Evan Hoag’s paper. I engaged in his work by first reading through his whole essay to get my head around his point of view of this essay. One thing that I suggested on not only Evans paper but on all the papers I edited this year was on grammar. Even though grammar is my strong suit, I think that when other people reading your words pause and breathe it shows that outsiders point of view for commas and periods. I did this with Even’s paper, adding grammatical things into his paper if one of the best suggestions I had for him. On the other hand I also asked questions to his paper. In this I had to make some things more meaningful and clarify some of his thoughts. I did this through adding question marks or telling him to expand on his point of view. I think that this suggestion gives the writer more of an idea when someone doesn’t exactly understand your ideas and wants you to say more about it, to completely understand it and I think that this is a huge part of giving constructive suggestions. I did think a few times in Evan’s paper, where his ideas weren’t as clear to me as they were to him. With every suggestion there is always the part that you have to commend the writer. I did this in every paper I have always edited, and I did this Evan’s. I commented when I really liked some of his quotes or some of his ideas that I never thought of. Especially in this last essay I think that Evan did a really good job of tying in his definition of empathy and then describing it throughout his essay. I told him this while reading his work by talking about how focused his paragraphs were and how well he brought back the main idea of empathy. Overall when I read another person’s work I think the biggest part is telling them what they also did well as well as some suggestions.
